What is the UET ECAT Merit Formula?

University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore uses ECAT (Engineering College Admission Test) for all engineering admissions. The formula follows the standard HEC weightage but with ECAT scored out of 400 — not 100. The calculator automatically converts your ECAT score to a percentage before applying the 50% weight.

Official UET ECAT Merit Formula 2026

Aggregate = (Matric% × 10%) + (FSc% × 40%) + (ECAT/400 × 100 × 50%)

Example: ECAT score of 280/400 = 70% → contributes 70 × 50% = 35 points to aggregate.

📌 ECAT vs NET vs NU Test

ECAT is shared between UET Lahore, UET Peshawar, UET Taxila, and some other engineering universities. If you score well on ECAT, you can apply to multiple UET campuses with a single test score. NUST uses NET (different test), and FAST uses NU Test.

UET Lahore 2025 Closing Merit — Department-wise

DepartmentClosing Merit (Est.)Min ECAT (~)
Computer Science75%+280/400
Electrical Engineering72%+260/400
Mechanical Engineering70%+250/400
Civil Engineering68%+240/400
Chemical Engineering65%+220/400
Architecture63%+210/400
Environmental Engineering60%+200/400

The min ECAT values are approximate for a student with Matric 90% and FSc 85%. Use the calculator for your exact marks. Verify at uet.edu.pk.

Worked Example — UET ECAT Aggregate Calculation

Matric

990/1100

= 90%

FSc Pre-Engineering

935/1100

= 85%

ECAT Score

280/400

= 70%

UET Calculation:

Matric: 90% × 10% = 9.00

FSc: 85% × 40% = 34.00

ECAT: 70% × 50% = 35.00

Aggregate = 9.00 + 34.00 + 35.00 = 78.00%

78% exceeds the UET CS closing merit of ~75%, making this student competitive for Computer Science at UET Lahore.

UET Merit Calculator — Frequently Asked Questions

What is ECAT and how is it different from NET?

ECAT (Engineering College Admission Test) is conducted by UET Lahore for admission to engineering universities in Punjab. It is scored out of 400 marks (Physics 80, Chemistry 80, Math 160, English 80). NET is NUST's own test scored out of 100. They are two completely separate exams — you need ECAT for UET and NET for NUST.

Can I apply to both UET Lahore and UET Taxila/Peshawar with the same ECAT score?

Yes. ECAT scores are accepted by UET Lahore, UET Taxila, UET Peshawar, NFC IEFR, and several other engineering universities in Pakistan. You apply to each university separately but use the same ECAT score. UET Lahore has the highest merit among all UET campuses.

Is ECAT easier than NET?

ECAT and NET test different things at different difficulty levels. ECAT (out of 400) typically covers Matric and FSc-level Physics, Chemistry, and Math. NET is designed specifically for NUST and is considered by many students to be more competitive due to the higher weight it carries (75% vs 50%). Both require dedicated preparation.

What happens if I miss the UET ECAT by 5 marks?

Even a 5-mark improvement in ECAT (out of 400) = 1.25% improvement = 0.625 points added to your aggregate. At competitive boundaries, this can make the difference. UET also offers self-finance seats with lower merit cutoffs for students who narrowly miss regular seats.

Does UET Lahore offer any other admission criteria besides ECAT?

UET Lahore primarily uses ECAT for engineering programs. For architecture, an additional aptitude test is required. There are separate quotas for armed forces children, disabled persons, and foreign students. The main ECAT-based merit accounts for the majority of seats.

What aggregate is needed for Electrical Engineering at UET Lahore?

The estimated closing merit for Electrical Engineering at UET Lahore is approximately 72%+. For a student with Matric 90% and FSc 85%, an ECAT score of approximately 260/400 (65%) would give an aggregate of: (9 + 34 + 32.5) = 75.5%, which is competitive.
