What is the COMSATS Merit Formula?

COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) uses the standard HEC formula for merit calculation. One unique feature: COMSATS accepts scores from multiple entry tests — its own COMSATS Entry Test, NTS NAT-IE, and SAT (for international students). All scores are converted to a percentage out of 100 before applying the formula.

Official COMSATS Merit Formula 2026

Aggregate = (Matric% × 10%) + (FSc% × 40%) + (Entry Test% × 50%)

Entry test score is always expressed as a percentage (0–100). If you have an SAT score, convert it first: SAT Score / 1600 × 100. For NTS NAT, use the score as-is out of 100.

📋 Which Entry Tests Does COMSATS Accept?

COMSATS Own Test

Conducted at COMSATS campuses. Most common.

NTS NAT-IE/CS

National Testing Service test. Score out of 100.

SAT (Scholastic)

For international applicants. Converted to 100.

Worked Example — COMSATS Aggregate Calculation

Matric

935/1100

= 85%

FSc ICS

825/1100

= 75%

Entry Test

65/100

= 65%

COMSATS Calculation:

Matric: 85% × 10% = 8.50

FSc: 75% × 40% = 30.00

Entry: 65% × 50% = 32.50

Aggregate = 8.50 + 30.00 + 32.50 = 71.00%

71% exceeds the COMSATS Islamabad CS closing merit of ~68%, making this student competitive for CS at the main campus.

COMSATS Merit — Frequently Asked Questions

Does COMSATS accept NTS score for admission?

Yes. COMSATS University Islamabad accepts NTS NAT-IE (for Engineering) and NAT-CS (for Computer Science) scores. The NTS score is used directly as a percentage out of 100 in the merit formula. Make sure to appear for the correct NTS test category for your intended program.

What is the minimum CGPA to maintain at COMSATS?

COMSATS requires a minimum CGPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale to remain in good academic standing. Students falling below 1.5 CGPA in any semester are placed on academic probation. COMSATS follows HEC grading standards. Use the GPA Calculator to track your academic progress.

Is the COMSATS Islamabad campus better than other campuses?

The Islamabad (Headquarters) campus is the main campus with more programs, better industry connections, and higher research output. However, all COMSATS campuses are accredited by HEC and offer the same degree. Islamabad campus has higher merit cutoffs and is recommended if you meet the aggregate requirement.

Can I apply to multiple COMSATS campuses with the same entry test score?

Yes. You can list multiple COMSATS campuses in your application in order of preference. COMSATS allocates seats based on your aggregate merit, starting from your first-choice campus. If you do not meet the Islamabad CS cutoff, you may automatically be offered a seat at a lower-merit campus.

How is SAT score converted for COMSATS admission?

If applying with SAT, your score is converted to a percentage: (SAT Score / 1600) × 100. For example, an SAT score of 1200 = 75%. This percentage is then applied with 50% weight in the merit formula. The SAT Subject Tests are not used — only the main SAT (Reading/Writing + Math).

What programs does COMSATS offer and which are most competitive?

COMSATS offers programs in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biosciences, Mathematics, and more. CS and SE at the Islamabad campus are the most competitive programs, with closing merits around 68% and 66% respectively. EE is slightly less competitive at ~65%.
