Understanding the 10-40-50 Formula
The merit calculation for medical and dental colleges in Pakistan is standardized to ensure fairness across different educational backgrounds. The current formula used by the **Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC)** and provincial bodies like **UHS (Punjab)** and **KMU (KPK)** is:
1. Matriculation (10% Weightage)
Your Matric or O-Level equivalence marks contribute 10% to the total. If you have 1000/1100, your weightage is `(1000/1100) * 10 = 9.09%`.
2. Intermediate / FSc (40% Weightage)
This is a major component. FSc Pre-Medical or A-Level equivalence marks hold 40% weightage. High scores here are crucial for securing a seat in top institutions like KEMU or AIMC.
3. Entry Test / MDCAT (50% Weightage)
The Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) is the most influential part, accounting for half of your merit. Even a few marks difference in MDCAT can significantly shift your aggregate.
Admission Chances & Cutoff Estimates
Based on historical data from the 2024-25 session, here are the estimated closing aggregates for various categories:
- Top Tier (90%+): Safe zone for King Edward, Allama Iqbal, and Army Medical College.
- Competitive (87% - 90%): Good chances for Services, Nishtar, and Fatima Jinnah Medical University.
- Borderline (85% - 87%): Chances in peripheral colleges or private sector medical universities.
Hafiz-e-Quran Bonus Marks
According to the current policy, 20 extra marks are added to the FSc obtained marks for verified Hafiz-e-Quran candidates. Make sure to present your Hifz certificate during the admission process.
