Estimate your monthly gas bill using Pakistan's progressive slab rates. Covers SNGPL (Punjab/KPK) and SSGC (Sindh/Balochistan) with full worked example, 10 money-saving tips, and bill reading guide.
Calculate My Gas Bill โPakistan has two gas distribution companies serving the entire country. SNGPL (Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited) serves Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad. SSGC (Sui Southern Gas Company) serves Sindh and Balochistan. The company name on your gas bill tells you which utility is your service provider.
Gas consumption in Pakistan is measured in MMBTU (Million British Thermal Units). Your gas meter records cumulative consumption in cubic feet or cubic meters, which the billing system converts to MMBTU using a calorific value specific to your region. The MMBTU figure for your billing period appears directly on your gas bill statement.
Gas billing uses a progressive slab system โ similar to income tax brackets. Only the units falling within each consumption band are charged at that band's rate. Higher consumption means hitting more expensive slabs, but the cheaper slabs are always charged first. Monthly bills include: gas consumption charges (slab-wise), GST (18%), fixed meter rent (PKR 10โ80 depending on consumer category), and miscellaneous surcharges.
Winter bills (NovemberโFebruary) are dramatically higher than summer bills โ typically 3โ5ร more โ because geysers and gas heaters run continuously. Budgeting for this seasonal spike is important for household financial planning. You can also compare your gas costs with electricity using our Electricity Bill Calculator.
Slab charges are calculated progressively: each MMBTU band is multiplied by its own rate, then all bands are summed. GST applies to total gas charges, not meter rent.
For example, if you consume 2.5 MMBTU, the calculation charges first 0.5 MMBTU at the first slab rate, the next 0.5 MMBTU at the second rate, the next 1.0 MMBTU at the third rate, and the remaining 0.5 MMBTU at the fourth rate. Never the entire 2.5 MMBTU at the highest applicable rate โ that is a common misconception. This is why our Gas Bill Calculator is so useful โ it handles the slab-by-slab arithmetic automatically.
SNGPL serves Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad Capital Territory.
| Slab | MMBTU Range | Rate (PKR/MMBTU) |

#1Lower your geyser temperature
Set water heater to 50ยฐC instead of maximum (60โ70ยฐC). Saves 10โ15% on water heating costs and extends geyser life.
#2Use a geyser timer
Geysers are the biggest gas consumer in most Pakistani homes. A timer switch that runs the geyser only 30โ45 min before usage can cut geyser-related costs by 40โ60%.
#3Insulate hot water pipes
Uninsulated pipes lose heat rapidly in winter. Foam pipe lagging (available at any hardware store) reduces heat loss and means your geyser works less to maintain temperature.
#4Cook on medium flame
High flame doesn't cook faster for most dishes โ it just wastes gas. Medium flame with a lid on the pot is more efficient and achieves the same cooking result.
#5Use a pressure cooker
Pressure cookers cook at higher temperature and pressure, cutting cooking time by 50โ70%. Dal, rice, and meat that take 45 minutes normally cook in 15 minutes. This directly reduces gas consumption.
#6Fix gas leaks immediately
Even a small leak wastes significant gas and is a safety hazard. If you smell gas, check connections on the regulator, stove, and geyser with soapy water. Bubbling indicates a leak โ call your gas company.
#7Service your gas appliances annually
Dirty burners and poorly maintained geysers consume more gas for the same output. Annual servicing of the gas geyser and stove burner cleaning improves efficiency noticeably.
#8Don't heat unoccupied rooms
Gas room heaters left running in empty rooms are a major source of waste. Only heat rooms that are in active use. Close doors to retain heat in occupied areas.
#9Consider solar water heating
A solar geyser installation costs PKR 40,000โ70,000 but pays for itself in 2โ3 years through gas savings. Solar geysers eliminate the need for gas water heating 8โ9 months of the year.
#10Budget for winter โ expect 3โ5ร higher bills
Gas bills in NovemberโFebruary are typically 3โ5ร summer levels due to continuous geyser and heater usage. Set aside a monthly gas fund from JulyโSeptember to avoid financial strain during winter billing.
Gas bills are calculated progressively using MMBTU slab rates. The first 0.5 MMBTU is charged at the lowest (protected) rate, the next 0.5 MMBTU at the second rate, and so on. Total gas charges have 18% GST added, plus a fixed meter charge and miscellaneous surcharges. Our calculator handles this slab-by-slab arithmetic automatically.
MMBTU stands for Million British Thermal Units โ Pakistan's standard gas measurement unit. 1 MMBTU is approximately 28.26 cubic meters of natural gas. Your gas bill prominently displays the MMBTU consumed for the billing period. Your meter records cumulative cubic readings which the billing system converts to MMBTU using a calorific value specific to your area.
Gas geysers and room heaters consume gas continuously during winter months (NovemberโFebruary). A gas geyser running 2โ3 hours daily can consume 1โ2 MMBTU per month on its own. Combined with heater usage, winter bills typically reach slabs 4 or 5 (PKR 900โ1,400 per MMBTU) versus summer bills that stay in slabs 1โ2 (PKR 135โ400 per MMBTU). The progressive rate structure means winter bills are disproportionately higher โ 3โ5ร summer levels.
SNGPL (Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited) supplies gas to Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad. SSGC (Sui Southern Gas Company) supplies Sindh and Balochistan. They have slightly different tariff structures โ SSGC rates are typically marginally lower than SNGPL. Check the company name printed on your gas bill to know which utility you are on.
SNGPL customers can view and download bills at sngpl.com.pk by entering their consumer number. SSGC customers can do the same at ssgc.com.pk. Both utilities also have mobile apps. Payment can be made online via JazzCash, Easypaisa, bank mobile apps, ATM, or at the utility's customer service centers.
Yes. The first 0.5 MMBTU of monthly domestic gas consumption is billed at the protected rate โ PKR 135/MMBTU for SNGPL and PKR 121/MMBTU for SSGC. This subsidized rate ensures that households with minimal gas usage (typically cooking only, no geyser) have affordable access to gas. All domestic consumers automatically receive the protected rate for their first 0.5 MMBTU.
